          CATALOG OF CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP IN JEWISH STUDIES



The Catalog program is aimed at assembling and publishing bibliographic data about scholarly works which appeared during the recent years in the CIS and the Baltic states.

The Society is building up a research and reference library of current publications in Judaica for the benefit of all scholars. The library catalog currently includes over 1500 titles - articles in scholarly periodicals, special volumes, local newspapers, monographs and albums - dealing with diverse topics in the field of Russian-Jewish history. There are mostly works in Russian, Ukrainian, Belorussian, etc. which have been published in years of increasing interest to Jewish studies in the former USSR.

The JHS bibliography series was started in 1995 to publish a bibliographic reviews of current publications on Judaica in the CIS and the Baltic states.

In 1995 - 1998 the following works were published in the JHS bibliography series:

Issue 1. Current Judaica Ucrainica. January - February 1994. Edited by Alexander Feldman. Vol. 1, No. 1. Kiev - Jerusalem, 1995

    Includes complete listing of 807 publications in Ukrainian periodicals (January - February 1994) dealing with various aspects of Jewish life in contemporary Ukraine. Supplemented by indices.

Issue 2. Catalog of Current Scholarship in Jewish Studies: Publications on Bibliographic and Documentary Sources in East European Jewish History Published in Russian Jewish Scholarly Periodicals in 1993 - 1995. Annotated List. Compiled by A.Reingach.

    An annotated list of 130 publications in "Herald of Jewish University in Moscow (No. 1-5) and "Proceedings in Judaica" of St. Petersburg Jewish University (Iss. 1). Annotations provide information on documentary sources used in the publications including documents location.

Issue 3. V.Kelner. Addendum to the bibliography "Literature on Jews in Russian Language, 1890 - 1947" (St. Petersburg, 1995).

    Includes over 400 additional entries for the major bibliography on Jews in Russia and the USSR. Compiled and edited by Viktor Kelner, Russian National Library, St. Petersburg.

Issue 4. Catalog of Current Scholarship in Jewish Studies: Publications on Bibliographic and Documentary Sources in East European Jewish History Published in Russian Jewish Scholarly Periodicals in 1993 - 1995. Annotated List. Compiled by A.Chayesh.

    Continues issue 2 of the bibliography series. An annotated list of 81 publications in "Herald of Jewish University in Moscow (No. 6-10) and "Proceedings in Judaica" of St. Petersburg Jewish University (Iss. 2-4). Compiled by Anatoly Chayesh, St. Petersburg Jewish University.

The JHS invites scholars to contribute bibliographic data and publications for inclusion in the Catalog of current scholarship in Jewish studies.
